Pinterest Friday: Pink!

Hi everybody and welcome to the fourth edition of Pinterest Friday!  One Friday a month we comb our Pinterest boards to pick out our favorite spaces and design ideas.  This month we decided to take a look at rooms that make great use of pink.  If you’d like, you can check out previous Pinterest Fridays here.

From Mera:

I don’t think of myself as being a huge pink person-it can seem too pretty princess or country cute.  But lately I’ve been seeing pink pop up in a way that is pretty and a little irreverent and it’s appealing to me more and more.

This room is completely berserk.  Soft pink walls, mid century credenza, and a green shag carpet?  I’d never have believed it, but it’s a do.

I love the crazy patterned pink upholstery on the staid English roll arm sofa here. Again, the pale pink walls and Serge Mouille sconce creates that sweetheart with an edge thing, like Molly Ringwald by the end of The Breakfast Club.

From Katie:

When Mera suggested we do a pink-themed Pinterest round-up this week, I had my doubts.  It’s not a color I ever wear, nor is it one I’ve used much in my home.  As I began scanning through my pins, however, I realized that pink actually factors pretty heavily into rooms I love.  I like it best when it’s hot and bright and in small doses, like the chairs in these two images:

This room wouldn’t be anywhere near as lovely if it weren’t for those two perfect pink pillows.  They add just the right punch of color and make the room so much more inviting.

Obviously there’s a lot more going on in this room than just pink, but for me that lamp and the pinky-red bedspread steal the show.  They’re working great amid the riotous colors, but they’d do just as well in a more neutral setting.

What do you think, are you a fan of pink?  Would you paint a whole room pink, or do you like it better as an accent color?  We’ll be back on Monday and Wednesday with new posts and next Friday is Good Score!  Don’t forget to email us pictures of the treasures you’re finding or tag them with #rhwgoodscore on Instagram.  Have a great weekend!

I always enjoy seeing the pictures you post. Pink was a huge part of my life for so long because I did ballet, and everything associated with that seemed to be either black or pink. In 1991 I painted our family room pink. Every year I say I’m going to get rid of the pink and paint it a more “modern” color, but so far it hasn’t happened. Maybe you will spur me on to do it.

I love that strange lamp with the pink shade hanging over the bed. The floor and shoes look like part of the bedspread.

Pink. So not my thing. I can only take it in very small doses. I blame my mother-in-law. She is a pink freak. Her room looks like the Ever Ready Bunny ate a flamingo, chugged a gallon of Pepto Bismal and then exploded. She’s 101 years old and its like she’s living in Barbie’s Dream House. I guess when you get that old you can do what you want.

I will say, though, that I like the gallery wall against the (thankfully) pale pink in Mera’s first shot and that groovy painted chair in Katie’s first one.

But thanks to you, I’ve had my fill of pink for a while. Thank goodness I have a little less than 2 weeks to prepare for my next visit to my m-i-l’s.

    Think pink!

The adage ‘all things in moderation’ definitely applies where pink is concerned. But hey, why wait until you’re 101 to do what you want? I think it’s awesome that your MIL lives in the ultimate pink fantasy (and I love your description!). Hope you have a great trip!

I am so not a pink person but I, like Katie, love a pink if it’s hot and bright. That second room from Katie (Fresh Gypsy) is a room I’d love to have; the chair is spectacular. This was a fun RHW post!

I live with my husband and four sons: there’s not a lot of pink in my life. I’m also a lifelong tomboy so pink is a colour I wear sparingly and even then it’s at the magenta end. I don’t know that I could live with pink walls but I like the odd accent, as in the rooms you showed in this post. But it’s never going to happen in a male-dominated house even if I wanted it.

Your comment made me wonder about the origin of color gender associations. We take for granted that pink is for girls and blue is for boys, but seems like it could just have easily ended up being the opposite, or a different combination all together, like red for girls and green for boys. Perhaps a fun research project and a post for a later date! You certainly have your hands full with four boys! 🙂

It actually used to be that pink was for boys as it was the baby version of red which was all fiery and macho whereas blue was for girls because it was calm and serene. At some stage they switched. My boys don’t mind some pink – just as well since their bathroom in our new house is 1970s pink – and even wear some hot pink but they would balk at pink rooms. Honestly I think advertising aimed at kids has taught them to gender colours. My little two loved Littlest Pet Shop toys, for instance, but were convinced boys were not supposed to play with it because the packaging was pink. Ridiculous really. They got the toys anyway and loved them.
